JUDGMENT : 1. We have heard learned Solicitor-General for the Union of India, Mr. Sri Ramlu, on behalf of the All India Judges' Association; Sri T.S. Krishnamurthy Iyer for the Kerala State Judicial Officers Association and Sri H.J. Zaveri, learned counsel for the Gujarat State Judicial Officers Association. We have also heard learned Standing Counsel for some of the States. 2. To have a comprehensive perception of the matter, we direct all the State Governments, 35 Union Territories and the Union of India to state on affidavit the steps already taken in implementation of the directions contained in the judgment under review setting out which of the directions are already implemented and which are under process of implementation. These statements shall be filed within three week from today. 3. Independently of this, the Union of India is directed to collect, colate and tabulate this information State-wise and submit the same to the Court on the next date of hearing. For this purpose, the State Governments shall furnish the requisite information to the Union of India, within three weeks so as to enable the Union of India to make a comprehensive statement. 4. We direct this matter to be called on 29th January, 1993. 5. In the meanwhile, all those Judicial Officers in all the States and Union Territories who would have had the benefit of the direction No. (iii) in the judgment that the "Retirement age of Judicial Officers be raised to 60 years" were it to be implemented by 31.12.1992, i.e. who were to retire on 31.12.92 shall not be retired but shall be continued until further orders of the Court. This shall be without prejudice to the contentions of all the parties in these review petitions and subject further to the final result. 6. Copy of this order be issued to the Standing Counsel of the Union of India, the States and the Union Territories.
