JUDGMENT : Pursuant to this Court's order dated September 9, 1996 Dr. BK Handa, Senior Scientist, NEERI is present in Court. Dr. Handa has explained to us the project which has been undertaken by NEERI at Puri. Dr. Handa has also taken us to the progress report regarding project dated September 3, 1996. According to Dr. Handa the waste water management system which has been installed at Puri is almost complete. According to him the totality of the waste water coming from the city of Puri shall be treated by the project and the B.O.D. level in the treated water shall be within permissible limits. He has further stated that NEERI has also undertaken the plantation of trees on the area measuring about 61 hectors. According to him the trees have already been planted on that area. He further states that instead of discharging the treated water into the sea, the water shall be consumed in the plantation and for irrigation. 2. Dr. Handa has further stated that the outlines of the project for the construction of sewerage system in the city of Puri has been indicated in the progress report dated September 3, 1996. The report also indicates the magnitude of the cost which is about 21.77 crores for the year 2025. 3. Keeping in view the importance of the city of Puri, the Government of India in the Ministry of Environment should also contribute towards the construction of the sewerage system in the city of Puri. The learned counsel for the Government of India states that he would seek instructions and have the response of the Government of India in this respect. Mr. Misra, for the State of Orissa, also states that he would have instructions from Government of Orissa and file affidavit indicating as to within how much time the Government would be in a position to make sufficient funds available to start the projects. The Government of India and the State of Orissa may file their affidavits within two weeks from today. 4. We place on record our thanks for Dr. Handa for assisting us. 5.
