1. On behalf of Company, Mr Gopal Subramanium has stated that apart from the merits of the case of the workmen, in this particular case relating to the deceased Sarvesh Chander, the Company has already paid an amount of Rs 30,500 to the widow of Sarvesh Chander, which was his dues. The Company is also willing to make an ext gratia payment having regard to the circumstances under which he died. The Company further undertakes to absorb the eldest son of the family in its employment. The Company will also pay for the expenses of the three other children of Sarvesh Chander for their education. We fix the ex gratia amount to be paid by the Company at Rs 5,50,000. This amount must be paid to the widow within a period of one week from today. The Company will invest this amount of Rs 5,50,000 in a long-term fixed deposit of not less than five years, in a nationalised bank in the name of the widow. The bank will hold the fixed deposit till further orders of the Court. The interest amount will be paid to the widow for the benefit of the widow as well as her children. On maturity of the fixed deposit, further instructions should be taken from the Court. The Managing Director need not be personally present in Court on 9-9-1997. 2. IA is adjourned to 9-9-1997.
