JUDGMENT : 1. It is stated that there has been sad bereavement of the mother of the learned Additional Solicitor General, Mr. Altaf Ahmad, who was dealing with the case on behalf of the Union of India. 2. We have drawn the attention of the learned Attorney General to the affidavit filed in this Court by Shri G. Ganesan, Under Secretary to the Government of India on 10th September, 1999 and, in particular, to page- 6 of the said affidavit and have also drawn his attention to certain reports which have appeared in some newspapers attributing statement to some Cabinet Minister of the Union Government, which is not quite in tune with the affidavit. Leaving aside the question of the property of making statements during the pendency of these proceedings, we want to have a categorical statement of the Union Government of its stand in the matter. The learned Attorney General seeks time. He shall state on an appropriate affidavit, the stand of the Union Government in this matter. 3. Mr. Desai, learned senior counsel, who appears for the State of Maharashtra, takes note of the further affidavit filed by Mr. Mohammed Ishaq Ebrahim Batatawala on 27th March, 2000, along with its annexure. He may, in the light of that affidavit, and the statement made today at the Bar, examine the matter and place in writing, on the affidavit of the responsible officer, the stand of the State of Maharashtra insofar as followup action of Shri Krishna Commission's report is concerned. 4. Let the necessary affidavits be filed by the Union of India and the State Government within six weeks. 5. We adjourn these matters by six weeks. It shall come up on a non-miscellaneous day for further directions.
