M. Adinarayana v. General Manager, State Bank of India

2005-08-22

body2005
BILAL NAZKI, ACJ, J. ( 1 ) THIS writ petition is filed by four persons, who claim to be the depositors of State Bank of India, m. Seetharamapuram Branch. They are aggrieved of the action of the respondents in shifting the branch of the Bank from M. Seetharamapuram, Vangara Mandal, srikakulam District to Vangara Village, srikakaulam District. The distance between the existing branch and the proposed branch is 3 kilometers. The case of the petitioners is that it is difficult for them to take heavy cash for a distance of 3 kilometers and the branch had about 1500 to 2000 customers. ( 2 ) LEARNED Counsel appearing for the bank submits that in the interest of the bank, two branches were merged and therefore, for administrative reasons, the branch had to be shifted. ( 3 ) WE do not find any ground to interfere with the matter, as the Bank itself knows the best where to locate a branch and where not to locate a branch. In these circumstances, the writ petition is liable to be dismissed and is accordingly dismissed. No order as to costs.
