ORDER : S.B. Sinha, S.H. Kapadia, JJ. When the matter was called on, the learned Solicitor General made a statement before us that the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs in its meeting held on 7-4-2005 has accorded its approval for 1562 Fast Track Courts at a cost of Rs. 509 crores as a hundred per cent central funding for a period of five years. In that view of the matter, no further order in relation to our earlier order to continue Fast Track Courts need to be passed. 2. However, it appears that in the State of U.P. the Fast Track Courts have stopped working with effect from 1-3-2005. The State of U.P. is directed, having regard to the financial commitment made by the Central Government and its approval for continuation of the Fast Track Courts, to continue the same in terms of the existing scheme. The State of U.P, however, shall file an affidavit before this Court as to under what circumstances the Fast Track Courts were closed down with effect from 1-3-2005. Such an affidavit must be filed by 18-7-2005. 3. Some of the States in their affidavits have dealt with financial aspects of the matter but it appears that some States e.g. the States of Punjab, Haryana, the State of U.P, the State of Bihar have not filed their details as regards the financial status of the erstwhile scheme which came to end on 31-3-2005. The respective States as also the High Courts concerned shall comply with the earlier orders passed by this Court. 4. The States of West Bengal and Jammu and Kashmir appear to have not complied with the earlier direction who are hereby directed to file an affidavit by 18-7-2005 as regards the said compliance. 5. In the facts and circumstances of the matter this Court deems it desirable that the matter relating to the number of Fast Track Courts vis-a-vis pendency of cases may be worked out. The learned Solicitor General submits that the Law Ministry shall take effective steps in this behalf in the meanwhile. Let the matter be posted before this Court on 29-7-2005.
