ORDER : 1. We have examined the Office Report. Only some of the State Governments and High Courts have filed Progress Report in terms of decision of this Court dated 2nd August, 2005 reported in (2005) 6 SCC 344 , Salem Advocates Bar Association, Tamil Nadu v. Union of India. The Union of India has filed an application seeking extension of time for compliance with the directions contained in the judgment. Having regard to the nature of directions and impact likely to have on the progress of the cases in various Courts, we hope that now upto the extended period the necessary steps would be taken by the Union of India, State Governments and the High Courts and progress reports filed latest by 31st March, 2006. The time to comply with the directions is extended upto 31st March, 2006. 2. The copies of the reports already filed and that may be filed hereafter shall be supplied by the Registry to learned Amicus Curiae. Learned counsel may prepare a brief summary of Reports to facilitate issue of further directions, if any. A copy of the direction extending time till 31st March, 2006 shall be sent to all the State Governments and the High Courts. 3. List this matter in April, 2006.
