Judgment , J. 1. The petitioner claims appointment on compassionate grounds on account of the death of his father in harness. It would be pertinent to mention, that the father of the petitioner died as far back as on 11.3.1998. Prior to his death, the petitioners father was employed with the National Hydro Electric Power Corporation Ltd. as an Attendant. The claim of the petitioner for appointment on compassionate grounds was considered and rejected by the respondents for the first time as far back as on 16.2.2001 (Annexure P-6), and thereafter, on a number of occasions from time to time. After eight years had expired since the death of his father, the petitioner has filed the instant writ petition, claiming appointment on compassionate grounds. 2. It is not possible for us to accept the instant prayer at the hands of the petitioner at this belated juncture. Appointment on compassionate grounds is a concession granted so as to tide over sudden and unforeseen financial hardship faced by a family whose sole earning member dies in harness. Since eight years have passed after the death of the petitioners father in harness, it is not possible for us to accept the instant claim of the petitioner for appointment on compassionate grounds. 3. Dismissed.
