ORDER : 1. Learned counsel for the petitioner has brought to our notice that there are large number of un-manned railway crossings and that the authorities are not taking appropriate steps to either convert them to manned railway crossings or constructing bridges to make it safe for the public. We are told that there are about 20,315 un-manned railway crossings and out of these the railways have identified 1018 to be manned in a phased manner and out of these 767 sanctioned. Learned counsel for the Railways shall submit the details as to how many level crossings remain to be un-manned out of the 1018 already identified by the railway authorities for manning. 2. We are told that there are railway track crossings in the National Highways and the State Highways and still there are no bridges across these highways. The respective State is directed to co- operate with the respondent-railways for constructing bridges for safe movement of the public. Learned counsel for the respondent-railways shall also furnish the details as to how many train tracks are passing through the National Highways or the State Highways and still there are no bridges across the roads of those Highways and he shall also find out as to whether any proposal is under consideration of the respective State Government and still is not co-operating with the railways for constructing the bridges, within four weeks. Pursuant to the directions of this Court, most of the States have filed their responses and those States which have not filed their responses so far, shall furnish the same, within three weeks. 3. We are told that the States of Delhi and Arunachal Pradesh have already filed their response. 4. List after four weeks.
