ORDER : 1. Mr. Justice S.N. Variava, former Judge of the Supreme Court of India, was appointed as the Chairman of the Local Commission vide order dated 25.9.2006. Mr. Justice S.N. Variava expressed his personal difficulties in continuing with the Commission and a letter dated 26.12.2009 to this effect was sent. Mr. Justice S.N. Variava is hereby relieved of the duty as Chairman of the Local Commission appointed by this Court. 2. As per this Courts order Mr. Justice S.N. Variava was entitled to all facilities which are provided to a sitting Judge of this Court including secretariat allowances wherever required. We are told that Mr. Justice S.N. Variava had not submitted any bill so far claiming remuneration or any other benefit. 3. A sum of rupees six lakhs only (Rs. 6,00,000) is fixed as honorarium for Mr. Justice S.N. Variava and the amount is to be paid by the Union of India to be reimbursed proportionately by both the States. So far as other members Mr. Kamal Naidu, retired Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Andhra Pradesh and Mr. S.P. Goel, Additional Surveyor General of India, are also to be paid rupees three lakhs only (Rs. 3,00,000) each for the work so far done. 4. As the work of the Local Commission is not yet over, we appoint Hon'ble Mr. Justice Tarun Chatterjee, Judge of this Court as the Chairman of the Local Commission and also Mr. Kamal Naidu, Retired Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Andhra Pradesh and Mr. S.P. Goel, Additional Surveyor General of India, as members. 5. The Chairman as well as the members may continue on the same terms and conditions as per the order of this Court dated 25.9.2006. 6. We are told that this Commission will have to sit few more sittings to complete the work. The Chairman is entitled to be paid honorarium as Rs. 50,000 per sitting and Rs. 30,000 per sitting to each member. The State concerned shall provide all facilities for carrying out the work of the Commission. 7. Send a copy of this order to Hon'ble Mr. Justice Tarun Chatterjee and also to the members. The Commission is requested to take over the work at the earliest. The initial term of the Commission is fixed for a period of one year from the date of the first sitting. 8. List after three months.
