ORDER : I.A.13 We have heard learned Attorney General appearing for the Union of India as well as Mr. Prashant Bhushan, learned counsel for the petitioners. 2. From the order passed on 14th May, 2015, it is quite clear that the inquiry is for the purpose of ascertaining whether the investigations conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation have been influenced in any manner by Mr. Ranjit Sinha in respect of the accused in the Coal Block Allocation case. 3. It was earlier suggested that Mr. M.L. Sharma (Retd.), Former Special Director, CBI may be an appropriate person to conduct the inquiry. Pursuant to this learned Attorney General had spoken to Mr. M.L. Sharma and he had given his requirements for conducting the inquiry. 4. We felt prima facie that the requirements were somewhat exaggerated, perhaps the scope of the inquiry may have been misunderstood by Mr. Sharma. 5. Learned Attorney General has since spoken to the Chief Vigilance Commissioner and has estimated that it may not take more than about 8 weeks to conclude the inquiry. If that is so, we request Mr. M.L. Sharma to reconsider the requirements given by him to the learned Attorney General. Prima facie, it appears that he may require assistance of two or three officers and perhaps two or three staff by way of secretarial assistance. The remuneration for Mr. M.L. Sharma, the officers (if retired officers) and for the secretarial staff (if retired staff) will be fixed by this Court taking into consideration the amount of work that may be involved. Needless to say, we expect the inquiry to be completed by Mr. M.L. Sharma between eight to twelve weeks. 6. Learned Attorney General says that he will again speak to Mr. M.L. Sharma on this basis and get back to us on 14.09.2015. 7. List the application on 14.09.2015 at 2.00 pm. I.A. 35 8. List the application on 21.09.2015 at 2.00 pm.
