ORDER : 1. In spite of the orders of this Court as well as the directions issued by the Government of India through the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, there has been absolutely no response with regard to elephant corridors from the following States: 1. Uttarakhand (no appearance) 2. Odisha (no appearance) 3. Arunachal Pradesh 4. Karnataka (no appearance) 5. Andhra Pradesh (no appearance) 6. Uttar Pradesh (no appearance) 7. Jharkhand (no appearance) 8. Chhattisgarh (no appearance) 9. Maharashtra (no appearance) 10. Punjab (no appearance) 11. Haryana (no appearance) 12. Manipur (no appearance) 13. Rajasthan (no appearance) 14. Madhya Pradesh (no appearance) 2. Apart from the fact that the response from the above States is not provided, even learned counsel for these States have not bothered to appear in the matter. 3. This shows the kind of interest and concern the States have for directions of this Court and the Government of India and for elephants and protection of the elephant corridors, some of which are critical elephant corridors. 4. We propose to hear these matters on 8th August, 2018 till submissions are concluded. State of Tamil Nadu 5. We have been informed that there are large scale constructions going on in the elephant corridors in the State of Tamil Nadu. 6. We make it clear that no construction is permitted in the elephant corridors in Tamil Nadu. In fact, we direct the Collector of the Nilgiris to prepare a plan of action on how to identify the constructions that have been made, when they have been made and for what purpose the constructions are being utilized. The plan of action should be with respect to the elephant corridors as mentioned in the Report of the Elephant Task Force titled “Gajah” as well as the area described as “expanded corridors”. 7. The plan of action should be presented on the next date of hearing.
