JUDGMENT L. Narayana Swamy, C.J. - The petitioner has filed this petition with the following prayer: "a) That the rule nisi may be issued and the respondents may be directed to produce Ms. Versha Kumari before Your Lordships immediately and further any other writ, order and direction as may be deemed fir and proper in the aforesaid facts and circumstances may kindly be issued." 2. On 18.12.2019, notice was issued to the respondents with direction to learned Additional Advocate General to produce the girl Ms.Versha Kumari before this Court today. Accordingly, she is produced before the Court by the Police. 3. Ms.Versha Kumari, who is present, states that she is 20 years of age and presently studying in B.SC final year in Government Degree College, Sanjauli. She wants to marry the petitioner, who is also present in person, as per her own Will. Her date of birth certificate to this effect is appended as Annexure P-5. She further states that she has been forcibly put in Nari Niketan. She further states that she does not want to stay in Nari Niketan and that she wants to go with the petitioner to marry him. She refused to go with her mother, who is also present in the Court. Mr.Bikramjeet Singh, petitioner, also fully agreed with the statement of Ms.Versha Kumari. 4. Admittedly, the petitioner and the girl have attained the age of majority. 5. In view of the above, Ms.Versha Kumari, who is presently in Nari Niketan, is ordered to be released forthwith. Both the petitioner and girl are ordered to be left free to marry each other of their own Will. 6. As prayed for by the petitioner, the Superintendent of Police concerned, having the jurisdiction, either in the State of Himachal Pradesh or in the State of Punjab is/are directed to provide police protection to the petitioner as well as the girl, in case such application for police protection is moved by them. 7. Learned Additional Advocate General is directed to communicate the gist of this judgment to the concerned police authorities, forthwith. 8. With these observations the petition stands disposed of along with pending application(s), if any. 9. An authenticated copy of this Judgment be supplied to the learned counsel for the respective parties.
