ORDER 1. Leave granted. 2. The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission ("NCDRC") has by its impugned order dated 1 April 2016 issued a direction to the respondent(s) to replace the engine of the vehicle purchased by the appellant and to render it roadworthy before returning it to the appellant. The NCDRC has directed that except for the cost of tyres and battery which will be borne by the appellant, the cost of all other services for rendering the car in a roadworthy condition shall be borne by the respondents. A compensation of Rs 1 lakh has been granted to the appellant. 3. Having heard the learned counsel appearing on behalf of the appellant and the respondents, we are of the view that a modification in the order passed by the NCDRC is warranted in the interest of justice. 4. We accordingly, direct that the order passed by the NCDRC shall be modified in the following terms: (i) The first respondent shall, within a period of one month from today, ensure that the vehicle is made roadworthy in all respects. The appellant shall not have to bear any expense whatsoever including for its tyres and battery; (ii) The compensation which has been directed to be paid to the appellant shall stand enhanced to Rs 2,00,000 (Rupees Two Lakhs); (iii) The direction for the payment of compensation shall be complied with by the first respondent; (iv) The compensation shall be paid within one month from the date of this order. 5. The appeals are, accordingly, disposed of and the order passed by the NCDRC shall stand modified to the above extent. 6. There shall be no order as to costs. 7. Pending application(s), if any, shall also stand disposed of.
