ORDER 1. Leave granted. 2. After hearing learned counsel for the parties we find that insofar as conviction is concerned that has been rightly recorded by the Trial Court and affirmed by the High Court. However, the appellant has been awarded simple imprisonment for three years and a fine of Rs. 500/- for an offence under Section 7 and simple imprisonment for two years and a fine of Rs. 500/- for an offence under Section 13(1)(d)of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The allegation against the appellant was that he had demanded and accepted bribe of Rs.1,000/- to secure the admission of the complainant's daughter. 3. Having regard to the circumstances, we are of the opinion that insofar as the sentence awarded to the appellant under Sections 7 and 13(1)(d)of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, it be reduced to simple imprisonment under both the provisions for one year which shall run concurrently. Ordered accordingly. 4. The appeal stands disposed of.
