ORDER 1. Leave granted. 2. Notice was issued in the special leave petition on 24 August 2020. In pursuance of the order issuing notice, Mr. S. V. Raju, learned Additional Solicitor General has appeared on behalf of the respondent. 3. The appellant stands convicted of an offence under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and has been sentenced to undergo imprisonment for life. The appeal filed by the appellant against the order of conviction is pending before the High Court of Delhi. 4. The appellant applied for grant of interim bail since he wishes to get married. The High Court called for a status report. The status report indicated that the appellant's fiancee is living separately from her parents and that she stated that she wishes to marry the appellant. The High Court noted that though there are four other cases against the appellant, his jail conduct after 2016 is not reported to be unsatisfactory. 5. In the above backdrop, we are of the view that the appellant should be granted interim release for a period of two days under police escort. The appellant shall continue to remain under police escort in view of the apprehension which has been expressed by the Additional Solicitor General that the appellant should not use the order of release to abscond. We, accordingly, issue a direction to the effect that the appellant shall be released on interim bail for a period of two days. During this period, the appellant shall remain under police escort and, after the expiry of the period, shall surrender back forthwith. The Police escort shall be in plain clothes and shall be at the cost of the appellant. The appeal is, accordingly, disposed of.
