JUDGMENT : JASGURPREET SINGH PURI , J. 1. The present petition has been filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India, with a prayer to grant protection to the petitioners at the hands of respondent No.4 (wrongly mentioned as respondent No.5 in the memo of parties). 2. The learned counsel for the petitioners has submitted that petitioner No.1 is a lady aged 31 years who got married with respondent No.4 about ten years ago and there was one child born from the wedlock. 3. Respondent No.4 was habitual alcoholic and had rudely beaten the petitioner No.1 but the petitioner managed to run away from the house and came to her parental house but the parental family members did not permit the petitioner to stay there and this is the reason why petitioner No.1 started living with respondent No.4 especially in view of the threats from respondent No.4 in order to save her life. 4. Learned counsel for the petitioners has further submitted that the petitioners are now being threatened by respondent No.4 and there is a reasonable apprehension that a great harm may be caused to them especially considering the background that petitioner No.1 had been beaten by respondent No.4. 5. Notice of motion to respondent Nos.1 to 3 only at this stage. 6. Mr.Randhir Singh Thind, DAG, Punjab, accepts notice on behalf of the aforesaid respondents and states that so far as protection of life is concerned, the same can be considered by the police authorities but so far as inter se dispute between petitioner No.1 and respondent No.4 is concerned, the same cannot be considered by this Court in the present petition. 7. I have heard the learned counsel for the parties. 8. The scope of the present petition shall pertain only to protection of the life of the petitioners. It shall by no stretch of imagination extend to the nature of the relations between the petitioners and also inter se relationship between petitioner No.1 and respondent No.4. In view of above, respondent No.2 is directed to depute a responsible police officer for assessing the threat perception of the petitioners within one week and in case any such threat exists, then appropriate action be taken in accordance with law. 9. The petition stands disposed of accordingly.
