JUDGMENT : RAJESH SHANKAR, J. 1. The case is taken up through Video Conferencing. 2. The present writ petition has been filed for issuance of direction upon the respondent-Bank to make payment of the maturity amount of the Fixed Deposit of Rs. 50,000/- which was jointly invested in the names of the petitioner and her deceased husband for a period of twelve months vide Receipt No. FME 0471883, FDR No. 264/96 dated 06.06.1996. 3. The grievance of the petitioner is that even after maturity of the said fixed deposit, the matured amount has not yet been repaid to the petitioner. According to the petitioner, she is one of the depositors and is the widow of the co-depositor-Saikh Mahmood Alam, who died on 26.11.2016. 4. A counter affidavit has been filed on behalf of the respondent-Bank stating inter-alia that the fixed deposit bearing FDR No. 264/96 dated 06.06.1996 for an amount of Rs. 50,000/- was made for a period of one year with the respondent-Bank. The said fixed deposit is more than 24 years old and the record keeping system in the Bank has drastically changed from manual entry to IBBS in the year 2002-03 and to CBS in the year 2008-09. Hence, the Bank is facing difficulty in ascertaining the amount of the said fixed deposit. It has however been stated in paragraph 7 of the counter affidavit that if the petitioner produces the original FDR before the Main Branch of Canara Bank, Ranchi, it will check the genuineness of the said FDR and if the same is found proper, due payment towards the said FDR will be released in favour of the petitioner as per the Banking guidelines. 5. Mr. Pratyush Kumar, learned counsel for the respondent-Bank, submits that the Main Branch of Canara Bank is situated in S.N. Ganguly Road, Ranchi. 6. Considering the aforesaid stand taken by the respondent-Bank in the counter affidavit, the present writ petition is disposed of giving liberty to the petitioner to produce the original FDR before the Branch Manager, Canara Bank, Main Branch, S.N. Ganguly Road, Ranchi. On production of the original FDR, the genuineness of the same shall be verified and appropriate step shall be taken by the said Branch Manager within two weeks.
