Judgment Mr. Anupinder Singh Grewal, J. The petitioner is seeking his release on parole for a period of two weeks to perform ceremonies and make arrangements with regard to the marriage of his son. 2. Learned counsel for the petitioner submits that the petitioner was convicted on 14.03.2023 in FIR No.10 dated 28.01.2018. Besides this case, there is no other criminal case pending against the petitioner. He further submits that he has been in custody as an under trial for over 5 years. 3. Issue notice to the respondents. 4. Mr. Luvinder Sofat, DAG, Punjab accepts notice and upon instructions from ASI Maghar Singh submits that it has been verified that the marriage and reception of the son of the petitioner is to take place on 5th and 8th of July 2023. 5. Heard. The petitioner is stated to have been convicted in the aforementioned FIR under the NDPS Act and recovery of 55 kg of poppy husk is alleged to have been effected from him. Besides this case, he is not involved in any other criminal case. 6. The marriage and reception of the son of the petitioner is slated on 5th and 8 July 2023. A copy of the invite is at Annexure P-1. It would be necessary for him to participate therein and perform ceremonies in connection therewith. It would, thus, be in the interest of justice if the petitioner is granted parole to enable him to attend and perform ceremonies pertaining to the marriage of his son. 7. Consequently, the petition is allowed. The petitioner shall be granted parole for a period of 15 days subject to his furnishing necessary surety bonds to the satisfaction of the competent authority. He shall be released on 04.07.2023 and he shall surrender in the concerned Jai1 by 05:00 p.m. on 18.07.2023.
