ORDER : PRAYER: Writ Petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India, praying for a Writ of Mandamus, directing the respondents 1 and 2 to regularize the services of the petitioners from the date of their reinstatement as crematorium assistants. This Writ Petition has been filed for a Writ of Mandamus, directing the respondents 1 and 2 to regularize the services of the petitioners from the date of their reinstatement as crematorium assistants. 2. Heard the learned Counsel on either side. 3. Prior to the filing of this Writ Petition, the petitioners have given a representation on 04.08.2014 to the respondents, seeking for regularisation of their services as Crematorium Assistants. 4. Learned Counsel for the petitioners submitted that the petitioners are doing the said service for the past 20 years. They claim that they have been issued with Identity Cards by the Sanitary Inspector of the Madurai Corporation. Despite their long service, they claim that their services have not been regularised. They also claim that in the floor of the Assembly, the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu had made an announcement that the services of the Crematorium Assistants will be regularised. 5. Though a counter affidavit has been filed by the respondents in this writ petition, no prejudice would be caused to the respondents if the representation of the petitioners dated 04.08.2014 as stated supra is directed to be considered on merits and in accordance with law within a time frame to be fixed by this Court. Considering the nature of the grievance raised by the petitioners in this writ petition, the representation of the petitioners has to be disposed of by the respondents within a short time. In case the petitioners have been working as Crematorium Assistants for long number of years, the respondents shall consider their case sympathetically. 6. For the foregoing reasons, this Court directs the respondents to pass final orders on merits and in accordance with law on the petitioner's representation dated 04.08.2014, seeking for regularisation of their services from the date of their reinstatement as Crematorium Assistants, within a period of twelve [12] weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order. 7. Accordingly, this Writ Petition stands disposed of. There shall be no order as to costs. Consequently, the connected miscellaneous petition is closed.
