ORDER : 1. The instant Writ Petition has been filed in public interest seeking a direction to the Union of India and all the States/Union Territories Governments to include the name of the mother of a child in all official and public records. According to the petitioner, entry of the name of the child's father can be optional. 2. Learned counsel for the petitioner states that petitioner has passed away; he was a bachelor; a journalist and, according to the learned counsel, had become a monk. 3. Be that as it may, the petitioner raised an issue of paramount importance and as per the reply affidavits filed by most of the States, they have accepted the concern raised by the petitioner and have taken policy decisions/amended rules etc. to ensure that the name of the mother of the child is inserted in all the official and public records. That being so, nothing survives in this Writ Petition, which is accordingly disposed of. 4. Pending application(s), if any, shall stand disposed of.
