JUDGMENT : Gautam Chowdhary, J. 1. abrasion size 01 cm x 01 cm present on antimid fore leg Rt present below 15 cm Rt knee joint 2. contusion 20 cm x 10 cm present on left side chest laterally 5 cm below left axilla? 29.4.2 Chest wall:- Contusions and abrasions of the chest wall may be caused by a blunt weapon, kicks, fall from height or crush under a heavy weight as in vehicular accidents, Collapse of buildings and stampede could also be causes for crush injuries on chest. These may be accompanied by fractures of the ribs or sternum, or associated with grave visceral injury. Even when not accompanied by such injuries, severe blows on the chest wall may produce a concussion of the chest causing considerable shock followed by death. Simple contusions and abrasions of the chest wall may be followed by pleurisy or pneumonia. Wounds of the chest wall are not dangerous, unless the cavity is penetrated and a vital organ is injured. In non-penetrating wounds, there may be free haemorrhage from the divided mammary and thoracic arteries. In case of a penetrating injury of the chest by sharp penetrating weapons or gunshots, there may be little or no external bleeding. but profuse and fatal internal bleeding. This is due to a valve like overlap of tissue at the wound after withdrawal of the weapon. Collected blood may be liquid, clotted or usually a mixture of both.
